The last three weeks in the New Zealand Tyre Trade have been a particularly nasty time characterised by the shameful tactics of some tyre companies. Thanks to an email forwarded to me today, and a couple of septic and disaffected employees who have recently been singing like Canaries, I finally know the entire story. It really is not a good situation, and thats before we even start to consider the implications in terms of the Commerce Act. All of this culminated in a number of resignations and humiliating heavy duty undertakings not to repeat this behaviour. And then there was the small matter of my own company that had been dragged into this sordid little saga. I was not amused, and for sure, no one has sent any apologies or undertakings my way.
I published an open letter on this website openly discussing some of the issues; I do not resile from one word of it. But I feel I have made my point and that there is nothing to be gained from the further airing of this matter in public; so I have withdrawn such open letter from this website. Of course all parties could have continued to rely on Section 1, paragraph 6 of the Defamation Act 1992 to continue slugging it out, but that would soon have gotten tiresome!
I have a deep personal abhorrence of gossip, be it business or personal and an equal distain of backstabbing. Gossip and misinformation campaigns conducted by sales teams and others only serve to denigrate our industry amongst ourselves and the public.
My business had been in the Tyre Industry for about 16 years during which time I have kept to myself and avoided all gossip and industry intrigue. In all this time I have only met a few people at Value Tyres, one Tyre shop owner, Dave and Richard if he is still around! I like it that way and would like to return to anonymity.
Leave me and my business alone and I will leave you alone. If I ever get dragged into this sort of sordid rubbish again, be it by innuendo, sales reps or subterfuge, you will end up on the receiving end of some open letters and websites and maybe social media that you will not like. I have got heaps of websites, another one dedicated to you would not be a problem….Qed.
Over to you.
