I am very wary of website optimisation “experts”, most of whom are quacks, but are very happy to take your money. Basically they promise to transform your sites Google Ratings when all that is needed is an orderly, well maintained site with lots of fresh, high quality, original content.
But Google’s latest guidelines for webmasters are heavy on “site health”, especially site speed. Google is saying that the speed is very important, which it is. Recent studies have shown that sites that take even a couple of extra seconds to load lose readers. Actually our online tyre shop website was already in the top 25% for speed, which was pretty good considering we had never done any work on this aspect of site management.
So we embarked on a major technical optimisation of our Tyresales e.commerce site to speed it up and launched a CDN/content delivery network, Hyper Cache and robotic optimizer. We also had to attend to a number of highly technical issues arising from our sites robotic configuration. Tyresales pages are now typically loading in 450 to 650 milliseconds and speedwise is in the top 2% of sites tested.
Of course the relevance of all this to our online tyre sales business is the need to facilitate ease of site access for our online tyre customers with high load speeds and cloud stability and also maintain good visibility in Google tyre searches.
It was hard work, but we got there in the end!
