Amazingly the K117 has intercoolers on its shoulders to dissipate heat with the benefit of longer tyre life. Also, there are wheel alignment indicators on the sides of the tread; these are very fine indentations in the tread on each side which should wear down simultaneously. If the wear indicators are wearing down on only one side of the tyre, it is an indication you need to have a wheel alignment – quick! Another unique feature of the K117 are the twin mini ribs to be found down in the bottom of the tread grooves for the purpose of heat dissipation for longer tyre life and water evacuation for safer wet weather performance. Not satisfied with this degree of excellence, Hankook have ensured the K117 has a triple driveline or triple layered block pattern in a staircase arrangement to increase the surface area of the tyre in contact with the road surface as tread depth declines through use.
The K117 Ventus S1 evo2 features several innovations, such as triple-layered tread blocks which, as they wear down, increase the tyre’s contact patch and therefore traction. The tyre also uses an innovative pattern of grooves to generate surface air turbulence, resulting in improved heat dissipation.
The K117 asymmetric tyre is the successor to Hankook’s famed K107 tyre which blitzed many famous old tyre brands in back to back tyre tests and furthers the Koreans Tyre company’s strategy to further grow its already huge penetration of the OE, original equipment, market. Expect to see the new Hankook K117 Ventus S1 evo2 on upmarket Audi’s, BMW’s, VW’s and others soon….
